Frequently asked questions

When does the 7-day trial start?

The trial starts after the first successful server connection, not when the installer is downloaded. After expiry, saved information remains visible but remote server operations require license activation.

Will activation remove my trial data?

No. Activating a valid license unlocks remote operations on the same Mac without deleting saved servers or workspace information.

How do SSH tunnels work on Mac?

Local forwarding exposes a remote destination through a local address, remote forwarding publishes a local destination from the SSH server, and Dynamic SOCKS creates a local SOCKS proxy. Review the bind address and ports before Start; avoid 0.0.0.0 unless network access is intentional.

Which operating system does SemiSSH currently support?

SemiSSH currently supports Macs running macOS 14 or later. The Android version is still in development and is not available for download.

Is SemiSSH a server provider?

No. SemiSSH for Mac connects to servers you own or are authorized to manage. It does not sell or host servers.

Does SemiSSH control my remote server?

No. Your commands and file actions are sent to the server you choose. Server behavior depends on that server and your account permissions.

What should I check before running a Multi-Server command?

Review the selected hosts, server group, command, account privileges, and confirmation dialog. Output is separated by host, but the command runs on every selected target and may change each server.

Why can a server feature fail even when SSH connects?

Some workflows require specific server software, operating-system commands, account privileges, or network access. Check the message shown by the app and confirm that the connected account is allowed to perform the requested action.

Does the built-in Code Editor require internet access?

The Code Editor is bundled with SemiSSH and edits supported local text and code files offline. Network access is still required for remote files, SSH connections, or external services.
